Persistence Needed to Rid Home of Bats

Bats return at dusk prompting health officials to advise persistent removal methods. A Brunswick resident boasted using a clothes hanger to drive out 38 bats from a gap behind a window shutter. Health official Charles Gillis notes openings larger than 1.1 cm invite roosts, with Washington Street homes described as an extensive colony. Authorities stress sealing openings and waiting until after dusk to allow bat departure, while rabies concern remains primarily for abnormally acting bats.
