Eisenhower Orders Moral Action to Bar Red China

President Eisenhower aims to mobilize the world’s moral force to block Red China’s admission to the United Nations. He defers final policy, urging careful appeal to world opinion while Republicans and Democrats in Congress oppose entry. He stresses the U.N. was built to marshal moral strength for peace and justice, not serve as a supergovernment. The issue hinges on Red China’s aggressor status, Indochina, and prisoners, with Knowland and Johnson guiding domestic stance. The piece notes global reaction and moral framing, contrasting with calls for coercive or expedient recognition.
