County geologists offer aid to road improvement statewide
County Commissioners received a message from A W W Johnson of the Maryland Geological Survey describing how counties can obtain planning surveys and cost estimates for road work. The service aims to prevent overspending and ensures funds are used effectively with plans tailored to each project. The cost to counties is nominal, often under five dollars per mile, with surveys and engineer time supplied free of charge.

Survey for New Road Connects Monocacy Pike to Hughes Ford Road
County surveyor Rufus A. Ragner surveyed a new road planned from the Monocacy and Frederick turnpike to Hughes Ford road. The route provides direct access to the fair grounds from Church Second and Third streets and indirect access from north county. The plan includes widening the Schley lane to 30 feet, aligning east then northeast over Sisters Bill to avoid Schrey quarries, and crossing property owned by Gol. Charles E. Trail before joining Hughes Ford road. The Agricultural Society aims to use the grounds for carriage use, purchase land, build two bridges over the race and Carroll creek, and grade the road with a $600 county appropriation. An estimated total cost for the society is not yet fixed but expected to exceed county costs.
