Mrs. Maude Lind of Woodehorn won first prize in Cory Restaurant's Frederick County Cook-Off representing the American Legion Post 282 with a banana split dessert recipe. Presenting the check were Jerry Freese of Gary Restaurant and Rob Gordon from WFRE, co sponsors.
Banana split dessert named best by 961 of 2,456 voters at Cozy in Thurmont during June. Maude Lind, Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 282, received the cash prize after the final tally. Other top winners included Lorraine Ruetten for cream cheese cake and Bernadine Hammond for rum cake as the event is planned to be annual.
A retro recipe hints at adding Swiss cheese to classic dishes for a new taste twist. It suggests combining apples celery walnuts raisins with cheese and mayonnaise, then serving immediately for six servings.
