In CamperLawn on July 8 Meese Ross, a Black woman, was found dead in bed with blood loss and bruises. William Evans, with whom she lived, was arrested after the dead woman’s daughter testified to a fight and beating. Doctors and an officer corroborated injuries. In Batavia the same date August Scharff shot and killed William Enright with a musket after firing at a post earlier. Maxwell’s request for a new trial was denied in St. Louis. an appeal will follow to the U.S. Court on juror-challenge issues.

Deputy Sheriff Sam Jonta arrived at 6 o clock p a evening to charge George Dorsey with shooting George Dover at a picnic near Thomas Beans store on Seventh Street road Monday evening. Dover died the next day. witnesses Robert Green and Charles Harris were detained for the State. A pistol shot fired through a door during the excitement caused the fatal wound and it is unclear if Dorsey fired the shot. Dorsey appeared cool and jailed while laughing with two companions.

In Bramwood Indiana on July 8 a three round glove fight at Music Hall matched Paddy Welch of Chicago against Billy Myers of Streator for a $1000 purse. Myers scored in rounds two and three delivering sharp lefts and rights, driving Welch over the ropes and securing the win as money changed hands.

Fire destroys Kirkwood dry goods store and nearby shops
A fire in Kirkwood, a suburb of St Louis, consumed Brant Holtzmanns dry goods store shortly after one o clock yesterday morning. With no local fire department, the flames also engulfed neighboring shops and a residence opposite, destroying the post office contents and forcing the family to flee for their lives.

Robison Shot By Officer In Harper Missouri
A young man named Robinson was shot and killed instantly by Officer Hester. He had been arrested for a minor offense and was being taken toward jail when he bolted. Hester ordered him to stop and fired a revolver. The officer was arrested.
