On July 3 in La Plata county near the Utah line Ute Indians attacked Wilson Carlyle and Johnson's cattle camp. Five Indians were killed and several wounded while whites lost 11 horses and 100 head. two Wilson boys, aged 8 and 10, rode 29 hours to reach Durango. William Palmer, a young worker for Washington T Darnett Es. in Downsville, was seriously hurt Thursday July 3 when a McCormick binding reaper ran over him after the txam sprang free. The machine wrecked. Palmer suffered head and facial injuries, possibly internal, as the team kicked and Barnett’s team ran off.
Suanex Sprivas reports that Mr Crocker a New York registrant staying near Ostego lake yesterday showed deep distress and after hiring a boat sank himself by fastening an anchor to his feet. Boats pursued him but he did not surface and his body lies in waters over 800 feet deep.
