Koenig Captured in Mobile After Maryland Slayings
Bruce Wayne Gus Koenig, 45, sought for two counts of homicide in the deaths of his parents Hans Al Koenig and Ruth Joyce Koenig, was arrested without incident at a Mobile Holiday Inn by police. He reportedly agreed to waive extradi tion and return to Maryland. A small caliber weapon and 9mm ammo were recovered with the beige Koenig family car. Ballistics tests pending. The victims were found shot in their home near Hyattstown Maryland. A Secret Service task force aided the Frederick County Sheriff's Office in tracing Koenig to Mobile. A warrant was expected to be executed in Garden Ridge Texas later today.

Arts Council chief calls license-forfeit rumor unfounded

Severe 75 mph Storm Knocks Out Power in Frederick County
A powerful storm swept across Frederick County with winds up to 75 mph and heavy rain. 3,800 residents lost electricity, mainly in Middletown Jefferson and the Seventh Street area, with power expected to return by mid afternoon. Weather officials warned of heat index to 105 degrees and possible scattered thunderstorms into the weekend. Some roads and a traffic light near Walkersville High School were affected as crews worked to restore service and assess damage.

State agency investigates Fishing Creek fish kill
The Maryland Department of the Environment looked into a fish kill in Fishing Creek near Lewistown reported just after noon. Natural resources manager Charlie Poukish and biologist Tim Herb collected water and fish samples while estimating 4,000 to 5,000 dead fish in the creek segment between Fish Hatchery Road and Md 806. They did not identify a cause and cautioned against speculation, noting oxygen levels appeared normal. Continued on Page A4.
