Antique European Trolleys Gifted to Montgomery Group
European officials and local leaders gathered at the Trolley Car Museum in Montgomery County to dedicate five antique trolleys donated by Germany and Austria. The cars, once shipped to Baltimore harbor, were delivered to the Layhill Road barn and one car carried the Gratz University number 120. Walter L. Mazan officially accepted the cars for the American people and presented them to the National Capital Historical Museum of Transportation. The ceremony included diplomats from Germany and Austria and drew several children who wandered the tracks during remarks. The group plans to have the cars running by Labor Day weekend and continues preserving and expanding their collection with more restored cars and track work.
