GM Accused of Monopoly by Justice Department

The Justice Department filed an antitrust suit in U S District Court accusing General Motors Corp of illegally monopolizing the manufacture and sale of buses in the United States. It seeks to bar GM from selling more than 50 percent of annual bus needs for co conspirator operators and names Hertz Corp Greyhound Corp National City Lines and Public Service Coordinated Transport Co as co conspirators. GM denies the claims asserting no monopoly or contracts with bus operators and notes it produced 65 percent of new buses last year. The suit also cites GMs 2 724 buses sold last year totaling about 55 million dollars and claims a decline of new entrants since 1946.
