Impeachment Charge Fails Against Justice Douglas
Washington June 30 Rep Wheeler of Georgia failed to prove before a House judiciary subcommittee that Supreme Court Justice William C Douglas deserves impeachment. Three of five members said the charges were not sustained with one calling them loose and hearsay. Wheeler acknowledged he likely would gain nothing, aiming only to prevent further tolerance of improper conduct. The subcommittee plans to report likely to kill the resolution. Wheeler later admitted one charge of moral turpitude was untrue and dropped it after new evidence.
