Delegate seeks costs on escapees for return to jail
ANNAPOLIS Del Idamae Garratt of MontCo plans legislation to require escapees from the county detention center to cover return expenses. The bill would make inmates liable for all costs of their return from out of state, abroad, or elsewhere in Maryland, arguing taxpayers should not pay for escaped prisoners who can afford it. Garratt says the measure aims to set a strong tone, even if few escapees are involved.
