Runaway car kills crowd at Portage celebration
A gravity-driven mine incline car jumped its track near Portage and crashed into a party of about 20 foreigners. Thirteen died instantly and several were injured. Rescue workers found graphic injuries as the wreckage tore the crowd apart. An undertaker collected remains while officials pondered whether the brake failed or mischief caused the tragedy.
