Six Months For Stealing Corn Case Report
Roy Cook of this city was sentenced to six months in the House of Correction by Justice Patrick M. Schnauffer after a conviction for stealing corn from a farm near the city. Lambert, whose bins were found tapped, supplied key alibi details, but the magistrate disbelieved. A Germantown milling firm had previously purchased some stolen corn. Cook admitted taking the corn as payment on a car, and a representative identified him as “R Hawkins” who sold about 1140 pounds at 4.50 a barrel. Also noted: Clifford Hoar was found guilty of fishing license evasion with a suspended 10 day sentence. William Walker and Charles Walker were fined for disorderly conduct after attempting to buy beer from a storekeeper who refused.
