Schenectady’s enduring jokes and GE legacy rise again
A historical portrait of Schenectady with its famous mispronunciations, early settlement roots, and the rise of General Electric. The piece ties jokes about the city to a strong civic identity, noting presidents connected to Schenectady, Edison and Steinmetz’s roles, and the 150th anniversary of DeWitt Clinton runs in the city’s steam era.

Neighbors clash over roosters in Cecilton town limits
Cecilton residents debated a proposed ordinance to ban barnyard animals within one square mile after neighbor Anthony Brenna complained of crowing roosters and odors. Mayor and council members heard six other households keep barnyard animals, with most attendees opposing a full ban but supporting nuisance guidelines to govern roosters and livestock.

Gas prices lower for holiday weekend
Prices at the pump drop ahead of the Fourth of July as major refiners cut gasoline costs across much of the United States. The energy market shows a broad pullback, with Exxon and Chevron among those trimming prices while some regions see slower declines. Dramatically, Saudi and Libyan oil movements influence crude costs, even as Mexico raises its price and international producers react to demand.
