Banks to open postal savings depositories nationwide
Washington July 2 One thousand postal savings depositories were designated for the year ending June 30 1914. Four hundred were in actual operation and deposits will begin in a matter of weeks as interest in the system grows. Pennsylvania led in new establishments due to foreign population, with a total of eight depositories.

Inter State Commission Slashes Rates After Meeker Case Blow
The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered reparations to Meeker & Co. of at least 156 144 dollars, potentially up to 250 000, for preferential treatment by Lehigh Valley railroad to its own coal affiliate. Washington July 3 Kellogg worked on trust busting for the justice department living at about $1,000 a year from government funds. Accounts show expenses from Dec 23 1907 to Feb 11 1910 totaling about two cents a day paid by the disbursing clerk. Aeronaut Mavis parachuted into the sea at Atlantic City amid a large cheering crowd. Lancaster County notes 102 year old Jacob Kauffman admitted to the county institution native of France. Six bandits attempted to derail a Philadelphia and Erie train at Five Mile Curve to reach a cash haul of 45000 dollars. Detectives found dynamite sticks dated 1911, and the crew and passengers fought back, wounding attackers while authorities trace footprints to a ravine. Conductor Roney and Mail Clerk H Block were wounded. Express Agent James Hart and others were also hurt as passengers helped subdue the robbers before they fled into darkness.
