Nebraskan allies urge a resolution honoring President Cleveland as a tactic to curb factional strife within the Democratic party. The group fears rivals use the gesture to steer delegates at the upcoming national convention.
Nebraska delegates report Bryan will avoid platform fights and not interfere unless a plank harms progressive doctrine. Parker resolution sparks dispute rumors as New York and Bryan factions clash over honoring Mr. Cleveland while avoiding acrimony.
Grover Cleveland's will has been filed with Mercer county New Jersey surrogate and will be probated within ten days. Mrs. Cleveland will travel from Tamworth New Hampshire to Princeton for the probate. The estate is said to be larger than previously believed and will provide for Mrs. Cleveland and their children. Cleveland arranged that the bulk of his property go to his widow.
A stylish female thief assisted by a male accomplice robbed a wealthy East End wedding party in Pittsburg. While guests gathered, the diamond brooch gifted to the bride was cut from its setting as the lights went out and the switchboard was broken.
James Sherman arrives by New York express to Utica amid a grand civic welcome following his return from illness. A two mile parade fills streets with electric lights, firework displays, and thousands cheering as he reaches his home accompanied by supporters and officials. Mayor Kernan delivers the principal address.
Judge William H. Taft held two conferences with Speaker Cannon and Secretary Cortelyou. Cannon said his visit was to settle accounts and renew assurances, stressing he could be depended upon to provide any needed support to insure Taft's election.
In Erie Samuel Atkins and James Lee suffered burns from exploding gun powder while handling a water bottle at a home. Walter Woodruff, nearby, also received injuries as the blast tore through clothing and alarmed residents.
