Fire consumes thousands of creosote railroad ties in Knoxville blaze
Firefighters battled a long night blaze on Cemetery Circle involving more than 7 000 creosote soaked railroad ties. Eastbound U S 340 traffic was rerouted via Md 180 through Brunswick until state police reopened the highway at 12 20 a m. Fire crews cleared the scene at 1 30 a m. No injuries reported beyond a hospital treatment for heat related illness and a photographer with a broken wrist. Authorities consider a link to two prior fires in the area under review.
