County star Keller on Yankees and fame profile

Charley Keller Fredericks county’s sole gift to the current major league scene is featured in this week’s Saturday Evening Post. Writer Stanley Frank calls him a “Second Low Gehrig” and notes Keller saves his $15,000 salary for a farm venture, with credit given to his father C. Ernest Keller and uncle J. Homer Remsberg for steering him to the Yankees. The piece cites Keller’s clutch run production under pressure, though his season batting average runs about .246, and claims he matches greats like Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio in potential, while acknowledging his usual late-season surge despite modest overall stats. Keller’s earnestness and reluctance to seek publicity are described as factors in his rise.
