A Philadelphia dispatch reports ex Reverend J. W. Bingham of St. Thomas township fled with Laura J. Lantz of Marion. Expelled from ministry for scandalous conduct, Bingham returned with a warrant to leave within 24 hours or face tar and feathers. he has a wife and seven children.
Senators Eustis of Louisiana and Allison of Iowa proposed a triumphal arch in Washington to honor the Union's restoration. They spoke at a private Paris dinner saying the monument would suit both North and South.
