Henry River mill town fades with closing of century old plant
Henry River North Carolina once housed mill workers in identical white homes now stands nearly empty with eight families remaining. The 1973 closing and a later fire ended a plant that began as a water powered mill then modernized to steam and electric power. Residents recall a tight knit community with limited plumbing and local stores while officials considered historic status for the mill.
