Potomac Eyesores Targeted as Nation Model
Rep Hervey G. Machen testifies before a House Armed Services panel that removing abandoned ships hulls and pilings from Mallow's Bay near Sandy Point and Liverpool Point and at Wide Water south of Quantico would help make the Potomac a national model. He backs a bill for federal removal with local cost sharing and notes Maryland support. Secretary Resor cites a $50,000 estimate and warns local opposition could block removal.
