Reds story questions Times reporter in Korea hearings
Senate investigators in Washington questioned New York Times reporter Charles Grutzner over alleged 1950 Korea stories that aided Communists. Grutzner denied any intent to help the Reds, saying he quit the party in 1940 after joining in 1937 at the Eagle. The panel also pressed Victor Weingarten, who refused to answer on grounds of self incrimination. Subcommittee members cited Burdett naming Grutzner and Weingarten as Communist cell members at the Brooklyn Eagle between 1937 and 1940.

Delay Decision On Susquehanna Bridge
The State Roads Commission postponed a decision on building a new Susquehanna River bridge as part of the Northeastern Expressway. Additional traffic data is needed, with an engineering firm to provide details next Thursday. A completion target of 1937 for harbor tunnel opening was deemed unlikely, possibly pushing to summer 1958.
