Nationwide Gas Rationing Is Defeated in House
The House defeated by voice vote an amendment to the deficiency appropriation bill for the OPA that would have mandated nationwide gasoline rationing or full repeal of geographic limits. Rep Van Zandt argued the plan would end unequal treatment while critics warned against hurtful shortages and regional disparities. The debate highlighted sectional strains over fuel distribution during the period.
