Railroad Labor Board Fails to Halt Strike in Chicago
Federal intervention by the United States railroad labor board failed to stop a nationwide walkout of 406,000 railway shopmen. Leaders Jewell and Healy refused to appear for an official investigation, adjournment followed, and the board said it would not compel attendance. A threatened strike by 400,000 maintenance of way workers was postponed but not ruled out, pending executive council action and wage discussions.
