Preservation Grant Frames Schifferstadt House Study
Pecora Engineering of Frederick completed a structural study of Schifferstadt, a 20 year old farm house museum, finding it in very good condition though moisture has caused timbers to shift. The firm will monitor stability for a year and cap visitor groups to 10 on lower floors and five on the attic. Preservation Maryland awarded a $1,590 grant to fund the project as preparations begin for a spring opening and an expansion tied to nearby highway impacts.

Frederick officials will decide next week whether the city's housing department will be dissolved. The proposal from Michael Spurrier would have Community Action administer $494,000 in federal CDBG grants while the housing authority would oversee the $2.9 million Section 8 program. The decision hinges on Wednesday's workshop and Thursday's public meeting of the mayor and board of aldermen.
