Town planners review mixed use plan on East Ridgeville

The planning and zoning commission reviewed a concept to convert a single family home on East Ridgeville Boulevard into a mixed office and retail building with eight parking spaces a new driveway and sidewalks. They urged consolidating driveways and considered future rear access and open space ballfields for Carroll County comments. The next meeting was moved to February 20 at 7 30 pm.

Frederick Brewery Nears Expansion Parking Approval

After three meetings with Frederick officials the Frederick Brewery Company on South Street seeks use of 25 spaces in the Carroll Creek parking deck to replace on street parking. Plans would expand production from 12 500 to 40 000 barrels annually and include a brewery restaurant at the former Farmers Cooperative building with off site employee parking to limit neighborhood impact.

Trial board hearing under way for Frederick deputy

A trial board at Winchester Hall convened for Sgt. Ralf Berger of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office facing multiple charges including misappropriation of property illegal body wire use and obstruction of justice The process delayed earlier has witnesses sequestered and the closed proceeding is expected to run all week with a Maryland State Police role and deputies from the sheriff's office involved The board's verdict will be sent to Sheriff Jim Hagg who will determine penalties with a possible appeal to the Frederick County Circuit Court

Shooting assault trial begins in Frederick Circuit Court

The Frederick County Circuit Court opened a trial for Gregory Tyrore Weedon 44 of John Hanson Apartments North Bentz Street Frederick charged with assault with intent to murder stemming from Oct 9 1993 shooting on West Sixth Street. Victim Vincent Tyrone Wills 22 of Sykesville was shot in the thigh during an argument over a neck lace. Defense argues self defense and says the victim started the dispute. prosecution says Weedon reached for a gun and fired. The trial expected to last three days.

Fire damages Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore

Fire destroyed a wing at Lake Clifton High School forcing cancellation of classes for 5000 students on Monday and Tuesday. Investigators ruled the blaze accidental with no one in the building and no sign of forced entry. Damages were estimated at about 450000 dollars.

Clinton aide records subpoenaed in Whitewater inquiry

The Washington Post reports Carol Willis, a senior DNC adviser and Clinton aide, turned over bank records to Whitewater prosecutors. Subpoenas targeted Willis, who distributed tens of thousands of dollars to ministers and political figures in Arkansas as investigators probe Clinton gubernatorial campaign financing.

Van and children carjacked in Baltimore incident

A man jumped into a van with six children, aged 3 to 11, as Grace Weissman left to fetch a purse. The vehicle sped away, crashed head on into a white van, and the suspect fled on foot after briefly parking behind a synagogue. Four children sustained minor injuries. others rode to a friend’s home for help.
