Sentiment Grows for Income Tax Cut in Congress
Washington January 30 Democrats push for a general income tax cut this year with Rep Boggs forecasting House passage before June and McCormack noting strong sentiment among Congress members. Proposals include a $20 cut per taxpayer and dependent or $100 increase in exemptions, potentially reducing revenues by about $2.2 billion annually and easing bills for low income families. Republicans favor a percentage cut rather than across the board exemptions, setting up a possible clash in Congress.
