Britain bars Jewish Arab militias in Palestine
Sir Alexander Cadogan told the United Nations that Britain would not permit any Jewish or Arab militias in Palestine while the mandate lasts. He said no decision would be accepted earlier than two weeks before the end of the mandate, planned May 15, and Britain would not insure the commission’s safety or accept partial administration. Observers noted the replies could hinder the UN partition plan.

Method Outlined To Cut Output Costs
Dr Gordon Cairns of the University of Maryland dairy department outlined cost cutting for Caroline county farmers in a three day farm institute. He urged watching grain and seed prices and using a 16 percent protein ration by mixing feeds and substituting hay for grain. Three pounds of alfalfa hay can replace about two pounds of grain, hay around 50 a ton and grain about twice that. The talk also highlighted home grown feeds and monitoring feed per 100 pounds gain and time to market. Poultry demonstrations and a Caroline County Poultry Association dinner closed the program with support from Extension Service Farm Bureau Grange and 4-H clubs.

State Snow Removal Costs to Exceed Yearly Average
The State Roads Commission said this winter will cost more than the $200 yearly average for snow removal and road maintenance. Frequent freeze thaw cycles forced constant road treatment and plowing. Officials noted ordinary snow up to five inches is manageable, but ice and drifts cause difficulties. Maryland’s last big storm caused little drift and the roads remained open by Sunday morning.
