Washington January 31 Senator Kenyon of Iowa said he would accept the nomination as Federal Judge for the Eighth Circuit from President Shading. The Senate confirmed the nomination in open executive session. Kenyon, a leader in the Senate and head of the agricultural bloc, thanked the President for the action enabling his service on the Federal bench.
Lieut. Col Edward B. Cassatt a sportsman and race horse owner died at his Berwyn home aged 52 He was the son of the late A J Cassatt former president of the Pennsylvania Railroad A West Point graduate he served in the Spanish American War and World War I as an inspector His widow was Eleanor B Smith of Warrenton Virginia.
Washington January 31 Commissione Haynes announced the appointment of Edward S. Johnson of Baltimore as a Federal prohibition agent to Maryland.
The Supreme Court rules that intoxicating liquors in government bonded warehouses can be withdrawn for personal use only if ownership and possession exist in a private dwelling. Justice McKenna notes mere ownership outside a bonded warehouse does not confer possession, creating a split with private warehouses. San Juan Porto Rico January 31 Chief of Police George St Shanton resigned to Governor K Mont feily after contempt of court findings. Federal Judge Ox fined him 100 dollars and costs and sentenced him to forty eight years in jail before February 4. The case stemmed from a request for a court order to destroy evidence connected to the Volstead Act. Governor joined local citizens in petitioning to remit the sentence. The judge said a decision would come today.
