Schwarzkopf denies evidence of Gulf War chemical exposure
Retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf told the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee there is no evidence that he or American commanders knowingly exposed troops to Iraqi chemical weapons during the 1991 Gulf War. He said accusations are a blatant lie and noted it is possible chemicals were destroyed or unrecognized during front line actions and postwar cleanup. He described a moral dilemma over destroying chemical and biological agents in Iraq and said he learned of Kamisiyah’s chemical presence only last year.
