Soul City ends HUD support after $31 million spend
Soul City in Warren County North Carolina once seen as a model of black capitalism is losing federal backing. HUD withdraws funding after failing to meet growth goals and debt projections. The Crumps who led the town remain. A court settlement is sought to transfer assets to HUD and satisfy creditors. Perdue Inc plans a 25 million plant that would employ over 1 000 people.
