Japanese mime Hakoshima will perform at Hood College in Brodbeck Hall on Wednesday February 3 at 8 p.m. He is described as the only Japanese pantomime artist active in the Western world and has toured Europe and the United States since 1967 under the Arts Program of the Association of American Colleges. Hakoshima blends pantomime with Japanese dance and Noh elements, tracing roots to Japan but using Western mime techniques to create dramatic tension. Born in Osaka, he studied Japanese literature and has worked with notable mimes and taught at several New York venues and colleges.
