Dispute Over Brandt Factory Additions Valuation at Hearing
In Baltimore on January 29 the Washington county tax dispute over Brandt Cab Works of Hagerstown centered on whether three 1927 plant additions should be valued at 1941 42 inflation adjusted levels. Supervisor Clopper A with the county commissioners argued for 133 838 versus the 180 000 company total cost. The commission will rule within a week, amid calls for a county wide re assessment in 1949. The Brandt additions were taxed last year as new construction. The panel weighed equity with other under assessed industrial property and the timing of the general re evaluation. The discussion noted ongoing inflation effects and the relative under assessment of local industry. The sun is believed to rotate on its axis in about 2T days.
