Fire destroys large home near Bucheystown, leaving two families homeless
A Keller Lime Company residence, a twelve‑room frame and brick house about a quarter mile northwest of Bucheystown, was gutted by a Thursday evening fire believed caused by a defective flue. Loss under $10,000, insured for about 75 percent. Two families, the Kubricks and Lenharts, escaped with furniture removed. they sought shelter with relatives as firefighters fought the blaze into night. The Independent engine from Frederick struggled to reach the site, becoming mired in soggy ground and delayed until around 11 o'clock.
