Erdman law struck down by Supreme Court on unions

Washington January 8 The Supreme Court sustains an employer right to discharge workers challenging Erdman law which barred interstate carriers from firing or discriminating against employees for union membership. The court holds the law beyond Congress power infringing contract liberty. Justice Harlan says quitting is like being fired. Justices McKenna and Holmes present. Moody did not participate.

THREE SCHOOLBOYS DROWN IN FROZEN POND NEAR WILKES BARRE

Five boys aged nine to thirteen slid on a northern Wilkes-Barre pond and broke through two-inch ice into twelve feet of water. Three drowned John Swainson Philly Jager and John Shallock, two were rescued after a brutal struggle. A lace mill worker who saw the break alerted others and one rescuer saved his own son at great risk.
