Suspect escapes recapture in Libertytown homicide case
Vernon H. Bittinger, 26, of Union Bridge, arrested Sunday in West Virginia and held for return to Maryland on a first degree murder warrant for the shooting death of Donald R. Gravley, 32, of Libertytown. Gravley, a friend of Bittinger, was killed with multiple gunshot wounds near Green Valley Road.

11 year old boy dies in sledding accident
Silver Spring police report an 11 year old boy, Matthew Hartmann of Sutherland Drive, died after a sledding collision at the Southwood Avenue and Sutherland Road intersection. He was dragged by a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity driven by John Bobich, who was unable to stop. Investigators said bobich was not at fault and no charges will be filed. The boy died at Holy Cross Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. around noon.
