Escapees hide out 2 weeks before capture by police
Two Frederick County jail escapees, Chester L. Stone Jr and David E. Jones, evaded authorities for more than two weeks, hiding in abandoned houses and a relative’s home while working through a jail work release program. Stone was arrested Jan 24, Jones surrendered Jan 25. Both men faced renewed charges after the fugitive period ended. Jones assaulted his mother. Stone was beaten and hospitalized on capture day. Jones faces 24 years for assault with intent to disable and Stone two years for battery and related offenses.

Man charged in bad check forging scheme in Frederick
Herbert N. Bates III, 24, opened a bank account in another name and forged six checks totaling $2,008.90 to Frederick businesses including The Electronics Shop and Service Merchandise. He forged signatures on all checks and signed his own name on a check guarantee form. Bates is jailed on prior bad check charges. a hearing was held Tuesday.

Sprinkler System to Be Installed at Weinberg Center
