Voting machine counter records raise Senate contest doubts

A January 2001 hearing before the Board of Election Supervisors examined protective counter numbers from voting machines in the O'Conor Marker Senate race. Investigators questioned missing permanent counter lists, and custodians Guttridge and Locke testified they did not know the records’ whereabouts. The inquiry, prompted by Francis T. Kelly, seeks why Congress impounded these records as the Senate continues recounts and investigates irregularities amid the contest filed by Markey. Also noted, Balancing Grange held its February meeting with reports on statewide Grange activities and a round table discussion.
