Lime Manufacturers to Fight State Plant
Lime manufacturers from Frederick and surrounding counties oppose a Maryland Senate bill by Senator Mudd to establish state lime plants. Critics warn state competition could ruin local lime business, noting past defeats of a similar two year old measure and hearings mobilized by Frederick officials. The plan would build two plants to process oyster shells into lime on the Eastern Shore and in Southern Maryland, with sales limited to cash to farmers for agricultural use.
