A folded sale notice from Neidig and Millers promoting reduced prices on women and children's underwear and mens fleeced underwear. It lists spring weight union suits wrapper vests and pants with prices from 22c up to 1.00 and men's fleeced garments in various sizes and wool prices.
Marked down items include Torchon laces 1 to 3 inches priced 31 to 50 cents. Silk Crepe de Chine neckwear offered at 49 cents. Also noted are women’s undergarments and related fashion goods with multiple price points.
New York detectives seize James Manes in connection with the Liverpool bank robbery of November 23, 1901. The scheme centered on a bank clerk Thomas P. Goudie who forged depositor names and stole over 80 000 from the bank. Burge Kelly Stiles and Marks fled, with Burge later jailed and Marks presumed dead. Manes held awaiting word from English authorities.
Washington cable reports Governor Ge il Ide at Manila denies natives plan to sell the islands via a cable station. Ambassador Wright is authorized to negotiate, while untangling a separate mention of a rival Ramberg and vague poisoning notes appear in the garbled text.

In Costesville Pennsylvania on January 27 Thomas alias Pete Lovell shot Joseph and Lizzie Carpenter near Entrekinville. Joseph died minutes later. Lizzie hospitalized with a near heart wound and may die. Waller captured at Towningtown after a coroner’s inquest described the scene.

The trial drew wide attention as names of prominent social and financial figures emerged through defense evidence linking editorial criticism of Justice Denel to Town Topics. The case highlighted disclosures from the weekly Town Topics and the Fads and Fancies book with high priced editions sold to subscribers.
W A Sewell and Leo T Livingstone, both of Baltimore, were found dead in a Philadelphia room asphyxiated after shutting crevices and turning on illumination gas. Police report death by own action, coroner confirms inquest. Propriety house and workers describe a careful arrangement of crevices and clothing still in place.
In Tiavana on January 27 the senate unanimously passes a $25,000 appropriation to purchase a wedding gift for Miss Alice Roosevelt.
