Prisoners May Earn Time Off for Work on County Roads
A bill introduced in Annapolis by the Frederick County delegation would reduce a prison sentence by one day for every five days of work on county roads or city streets. Sheriff Guy Anders said the measure aims to incentivize work after a CMV court ruling limited sentence reductions. He noted prisoners often perform as well as nonprison workers and may receive better meals for working, though they are not paid. Avalanches continue in the Austrian Alps, marooning hundreds of tourists. Three Germans are reported missing since January 19, with Austria's worst winter disaster tally at about 124 dead or presumed dead, plus 30 more killed across neighboring countries.
