State Roads Commission to start soil erosion control demo sites
The State Roads Commission announced a contract with the Soil Erosion Service of the USDA to pilot erosion control along state road rights of way. Ten tentative sites statewide include Route 61 near Thurmont and Blue Ridge Summit, Route 33 south of Middletown, and areas west of Sabillasville and east of Deerfield. The program provides technical supervision by the Soil Erosion Service with state support for maps materials machinery and wider rights of way. Property owners near farms may benefit as drainage and ditch work preserves dirt shoulders and slope integrity. Dr H E Tabler Nathan L Smith and Robert M Kelndollar signed for the State Roads Commission.
