Skater Kenneth Pryor Rescued After Pond Accident

Kenneth Pryor a 23 year old Thurmont skater was rescued from a frozen pond after falling and breaking his leg. Rescuers including Francis Shriner and Harold Sweeney carried him to a car and he was rushed to Frederick Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition after being treated at Thurmont.

Guard Going To Pa Camp

The 29th Infantry Division composed of Maryland and Virginia National Guard regiments and a West Virginia tank battalion will camp July 24 through August 7 instead of the original June 27 to July 11 dates. Commanders Col Roger Whiteford and Brig Gen Harry C. Ruhl confirmed the change in a Maryland Military Department notice. In a separate report, a two car crash near Hyndman, Pennsylvania killed 23 year old James C Kennel of Bedford and injured Cumberland resident Mrs James A Baker with leg and knee lacerations.

Merryland Tract Homemakers Club Meeting Highlights

Mrs Virts Hartman hosted the Merryland Tract Homemakers Club on January 21 with twenty two members and two visitors present. President Mrs David Kifer led the meeting with a song and a prayer, a demonstration on Suing A Man was given by Mrs Charles Aaline and Mrs George Chick, 1954 project enrollments discussed, a covered dish supper planned for February 11 at 6 30, recreation led by Mrs Roy Magaha, refreshments served by the hostess, next meeting planned.

The Glade Valley Lions Club held Farmers Night at Walkersville with forty one members and forty two farmers in attendance. Mrs Catherine Stauffer sang with Mrs G Fred Myers, and Charles H Remsberg delivered the principal address.
