Demand for Frederick county farms rises near Washington
Farm sites within commuting distance of Washington command high prices and a sellers market in Frederick County. Agents report dozens of weekly inquiries for small farm homes, mainly from families with children seeking more space, while realtors note few buys at fair prices and prices climbing. The demand is driven by inflation hedging and as a potential hedge against strategic city targets, with some buyers considering farming status to exempt draft-age sons from service.

Sudden Hike In Milk Price Probed By Washington Officials
Washington milk price surge draws scrutiny as Price Stabilizer Michael V. DiSalle plans staff review of Virginia and national actions. Virginia Milk Commission raised home delivery price from 22 to 22 12 cents and producer price from 6.05 to 6.17 per hundred pounds, triggering similar increases in Baltimore and Washington area markets and prompting questions about compliance with proposed federal price controls. DiSalle suggested the move may be a bid to evade a coming federal price freeze and said recent increases may offer only temporary benefits.
