The Du Pont Powder Co. announces a contract with the Argentine government for one million pounds of smokeless military powder. Production will occur at Carney's Point New Jersey and will occupy most of the year.
The Maryland Court of Appeals sustains the Baltimore City circuit court decision denying mandamus to prohibit Sunday baseball in Baltimore. The Lord's Day Alliance and others must pay costs as the appeal is dismissed. Manager Dunn calls the ruling a settling of the issue.
Rome January 26 The funeral for Pope Benedict will be at 3 PM tomorrow with only Cardinals and diplomatic corps present. Pilgrims massed before St Peter's exchanging hopeful glances as over half a million pass the coffin in two days. Cardinal Mer cier of Belgium seen as potential dark horse, expected to lead on first ballot among foreign cardinals.
Washington January 25. The Far Eastern committee considers a resolution by Elihu Root urging Chinese government consent for erecting wireless stations in China. The measure, after discussion, was sent to a drafting committee to consolidate with other Far East wireless agreements already reached.

A Barton Hepburn financier author and economist died in New York after injuries from a bus collision. He had been listed as not seriously hurt initially but his condition worsened to critical. The report notes his career as a financier and author and references a prior hospital assessment.
New York January 26 The stock market showed general strength in the forenoon with specialties leading the advance. The money market followed yesterday's trend with call loans quoting around 6 ½ percent and other rates steady.
In Miami on January 25 six members of a Negro orchestra employed at a tourist hotel were escorted to a train bound for Columbus, Ohio, after a gang beat them and warned to leave within 24 hours. Police knew little about the assailants. The group, accused of seeking to mingle with whites in parks and events, had caused friction by the leader steering a new dance on the floor. The Columbus orchestra was the city’s only white-section band. the hotel will hire a white ensemble.

Agreement also reaches that the soldiers bonus bill should originate in the House with a measure drafted by the Ways and Means Committee and reported in two weeks.
Washington January 25 committee on Railway Transportation of the National Agricultural conference urged repeal of the common guaranty clause of the Transportation Act. They recommended returning to state railroad rate control and stressed cooperative marketing as essential alongside production measures to lift agricultural mood and aid foreign sales through credit via the Federal Reserve system.
Hartimord January 26 Former State Senator John E Beasman of Carroll county died today at his Hotel Rennett apartment after a long illness. Beasman was a prominent Democrat, served 12 years in the State Senate and on several Senate Financial committees. He was known as the watchdog of the State Treasury.
Dr. Lois Harris, director of the Bureau of Preventable Diseases, said that in the 34 hours ending at ten a m today, 191 new influenza cases and 112 pneumonia cases were reported in New York.
The Shipping Board announced reductions in the wage scale of officers and men on Shipping Board vessels amounting to more than 15 percent, effective February 6. Board officials say union heads affected have given their assent to the new pay scale.
