Opposition to rate hike grows at prehearing rally
More than 150 opponents gathered at Prospect Hall gym Thursday night to organize against Potomac Edison’s proposed 22 percent rate rise. The Organization For Consumer Justice formed to mobilize experts for the Jan 27 public hearing at Frederick High School and the longer fight. Over $500 was raised to fund the effort, with a nine-member steering committee named from Frederick, Washington, and Carroll Counties. Participants included Eli Krotman, Mary Singleton, Mike Tullman, C. J. Swet, Sue Ann Baumgartner, Dan Kelly, Gene Falck, and Robert Bullock. About six politicians attended the rally in support of the anti rate hike and the “Operation Blackout” pledge to turn out lights at 8 pm Sunday.
