Maryland Driver Reexamination Bill Sparks House Debate
In Annapolis on January 3 the House Judiciary Committee debated a bill requiring periodic reexamination of Maryland drivers. State Police and the Motor Vehicles Department clashed over safety impact and costs, while proponent arguments favored better licensing and a point system for violations. The hearing drew more than 60 attendees, largely women from traffic safety groups, and recommendations to finance the program through fees were discussed.
