An afternoon paper edition description notes Frederick location and printing facility details. The text mentions the Daily News and a Great Southern company, with references to dispatches and the newspaper’s use of the Court fleet building.
A letter from Frederick rural advocate Markell H. Nelson argues for protecting domestic markets and opposing heavy foreign competition. He cites measures from last August, urges Congress to extend import controls, and warns that subsidized foreign goods threaten farmers. He emphasizes national unity and farm organization input.
A reader discusses government policy and farm welfare, debating whether farmers shoulder the burden of production costs and imported subsidized commodities. The letter references a February Home issue article by Gerrze N Peek and questions how manufacturing and farming share responsibility for national welfare.
Local columns reflect on anniversaries and memories from the Tad Frederick area. The piece recalls a wedding rehearsal and honors generations, noting Catherine Witter as granddaughter of a respected couple.
A jumble of social events and gatherings dominates the page. Mrs J Rist Recard hosts bridge parties with several social figures like Ramsours and Mrs Richard Dytron among the attendees. Mrs Ira Wight visits St Laws and Urbana as Mrs Wight faces pneumonia. Meetings include DLA RB To Meet Monday Afternoon and Elm Street bridal teas. The Catoctin Goat Club holds an annual meeting with an oyster feast and dance. The community notes a senior prom, church league events, and a shower for Miss Geraldine Minker, who will wed Mr John Hull.
Local residents from Toonerville Virginia to Martinsburg and Baltimore visit relatives and attend meals and games. Notable events include a turkey dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Kent G Nicodemus of Walkersville, a 36th birthday for Mrs Hany L Yinger, and a bridge luncheon for Mrs J W Donnan and Ruth Donnan. Gilbert Chinard of Johns Hopkins University is to dine at Cob lentz Hall before a lecture on The Modern Humanities.
Ruth Draper, famed for her monologue entertainment as a Disease, returns to New York with solo sets after a profitable tour. She can move her luggage like a salesman’s sample case and disembark quickly, leaving via a back door after performances. Attending the show, spectators glimpse the era’s bustle as Draper’s arrival sparks talk of fame and the evolving stage.
A scrambled historical summary lists figures born or notable events tied to dates, including Benjamin Lincoln, Charles Fos, Andres Elliott, Henry Barnard, Henry J. Reymond, and references to Boy Scout beginnings, income tax ruling, and a general horoscope tone. The text mixes biographical blurbs with garbled OCR fragments and dated facts, presenting a compact but unclear snapshot of legacy anniversaries and related notes.
