Liddy trial heated by memory gaps and Watergate ties
Former attorney Phillip Bailley testified he cannot recall key events around the 1972 Watergate break in and a prostitu tion indictment. Maryland lawmaker Sheila Hixson testified rumors about a call girl and a desk photo circulated after the raid. Ida Wells, suing Liddy for defamation, alleges the claim targetted her and that Nixon aides may have influenced the case. Judge Motz raised questions about a possible mistrial over an audiotape disclosure. Liddy, 70, arranged the burglary and faces testimony as his release and pardon are noted.
