Allegheny Energy reports 1997 earnings rise amid weather and costs
Allegheny Energy Inc. reports 1997 earnings of 281.3 million dollars or 2.30 per share, up from 272.6 million dollars in 1996 before restructuring charges. The increase comes despite milder weather reducing residential sales and higher non-utility losses tied to the 1996 power station stake, offset by tax-advantaged items and cost cuts.
